Trying to find the perfect place that’s conducive to maintaining your sobriety, does not have to be a headache – these three locations all house unique recovery programs and opportunities – making them some of the best cities to live in while sober.
- Boston. The city boasts more than 2,000 meetings, along with a “commitment exchange” program – which has members from neighboring AA groups speak at various meetings across the city. The program not only provides an extensive support system throughout the city, but also maintains the comfort levels of their members, by making sure that they are constantly in an environment that is nurturing of their sobriety.
- Delray Beach. Named “the country’s largest and most vibrant recovery community” in 2008 by none other than the New York Times, this Florida town has over 5,000 people attending over 300 different meetings, on a weekly basis. With its own recovery radio show, a recovery motorcycle club, and even a coffee house dedicated to housing its very own in-house therapy group, this beach-town houses the perfect atmosphere to foster the recovery journey, no matter what stage of the process you are in.
- Houston. Offering an incredibly large number of sobriety “clubhouses,” Houston provides venues solely dedicated to enhancing the lives of those attempting to live a life of sobriety. The clubhouses offer meetings, bottomless pots of coffee, and a time to dine with fellow recovering alcoholics. These meeting places are designed to fulfill the need to be social, without having the temptation of having to meet new friends in a bar or equally tempting setting.
